I have nearly 20 years of experience in digital as well as traditional art, and with the technology we have now, it gives me great joy to put the two sets of skills together to produce a unique and special style and be able to share it with you!
For my portraiture work, I have developed a unique, in-depth process wherein I employ various techniques and use a variety of custom brushes to turn the photograph you provide me into a digital painting with a lifelike oil painting feel.
Note: I do not provide printing services, but I do provide you with a high-quality, print-ready file (at no extra charge), which you can then print at your printer of choice if you choose. I recommend doing this and getting it framed, especially as a gift, as holding it in your hands makes it all the more special!
How I paint portraits:
I first prep the image by manipulating filters and adjustments customized for each portrait, giving me the basic building blocks for rendering the subjects as accurately as possible. I then put many hours and attention to detail into hand-painting over the portrait stroke-by-stroke with my various custom paintbrushes. The result feels like it was hand-painted because it was.
How other artists "paint" portraits:
The digital portrait "painters" I've seen on Etsy pass the photos they're given through Photoshop's Oil Filter and Filter Gallery, or download "actions" that do it for them. They are just telling the program what to do, leaving the portrait with an artificial feel lacking any artistic handiwork. This doesn't take them a lot of time, and they often pass it off to unknowing buyers as if they had painted it by hand.
